The Klarenbach Price Index is a continuous Saskatchewan price series used in every Special Crops Report note.

It is not an elevator bid sheet.

It is not a futures price.

It is the series I chart so that support, resistance, moving averages and Fibonacci levels can be read the same way across decades.

What the Index covers

  • Red lentils, large green lentils, medium green lentils and small green lentils

  • Yellow peas and green peas

  • Kabuli chickpeas

  • Canaryseed

  • Yellow, brown and oriental mustard

The full 35-year dataset also includes other specialty crops and input series, such as fertilizer and diesel, for margin context.

Units are the ones producers actually trade.

Lentils, canaryseed and mustard are in cents per pound.

Peas are in dollars per bushel.

How a level is dated

Every public note leads with the Index level that was tested on a specific date.

Examples from recent notes:

  • Saskatchewan red lentil Index tested 20¢ support (2 Sep 2026)

  • Canaryseed Index holding 18¢ (2 Sep 2026)

  • Green pea Index at $9.00/bu near the 20-year trend line (23 Sep 2026)

The date is part of the level.

A 20¢ reading from September is not the same as a 20¢ reading from March.

What is public and what is Premium

Public notes give the dated level, the current bias and the trigger that would change the bias.

Premium gives the full chart walkthrough, measured targets and specific sell signals.

Long-run reference

The 35-year dataset is kept as a subscriber reference.

It covers average, high, low, volatility, standard deviation and a correlation matrix across 12 crops.

Public notes cite it when a multi-year level matters, such as green peas sitting on a 20-year trend line.

The dashboards themselves stay subscriber-only.

What the Index is not

It is not investment advice.

It is not a cash bid, and it does not replace confirming prices with your buyers.

Technical analysis studies price itself.

Fundamentals such as acreage, carry-in, export demand and tariffs are treated as already reflected in the chart, unless a field survey or podcast guest adds context.

Klarenbach Research is independent and earns no commissions.

The Index shows levels, not how much of your crop to sell.
